Keystone and Kickapoo - Partners in Family Fun This Summer
Keystone, Colorado Bar and Grill has the scoop on Events
It’s no secret that the Rocky Mountains at Keystone, Colorado offers every adventure on your bucket list for winter. Our Colorado mountains were once known only as a winter playground for outdoor enthusiasts, where summer was the best-kept secret protected by the small group of locals who stuck around for this slower-but-spectacular season. Summer in Keystone now rivals winter in adventure and fun. Check out some of Keystone, CO's events - this is what's in store for you over the summer months!
Families will have a hard time deciding where to begin with the endless incredible options available to fill your sunny summer days and nights. On the mountain, choose from Bungee Trampoline, Keystone Climbing Wall, Chairlift Rides, Hiking or Mountain Biking. Add a western flair with a visit to the Keystone summer horse stables, and Gem-Panning for Kids in Kidtopia Play Park. Keystone makes kids the center of attention on a Keystone summer trip.
Look for Storytelling with Redtail the Mountain Man and Bambi the Donkey on Wednesdays and Fridays from June 27 through August 8 (except Wednesday July 4th, with it’s own special list of fun events). Held at River Run Village from 5pm-7pm at the fire ring, kids can gather ‘round for this free storytelling (and face-painting!) experience with Colorado legend the Mountain Man with his furry friend.
Also on Fridays from June 29-August 10, at the nearby Quaking Aspen Amphitheater in River Run, join in for Kidtopia Kids Theater presents The Prince. On these Friday mornings you can catch one of two performances, 10:30-11:15am or 12-12:45pm, of this world-premier family musical by the renowned Lake Dillon Theater Company. You won’t want to miss this humorous, original version of the classic fairytale! And on most Saturdays from late June through mid-August, Keystone presents Kidtopia Kid Fest. This fair with a mountain flair combines a petting zoo, train rides, caricatures, face painters, balloon artists, crafts, a kid’s show, bounce houses, DJ and a headlining street entertainer for a not-to be missed family extravaganza!
4th of July is always a highlight in the Colorado Rockies. This year at Keystone, kids 13 & under can enjoy a Free Fishing Derby in the Lakeside Village beginning at 9am. Don’t forget to bring your own bait and tackle for this wet and wild Independence Day activity! Then wheel over to River Run for the annual Bike Parade. The decoration party begins at 10am and the line up for the parade at 10:30…you don’t want to miss this fun all-American event for parents and kids alike!
Evening fun at Keystone kicks off with the star-studded River Run Rocks Concert Series in River Run Village Plaza. The series begins on July 7th with The Six Million Dollar Band. Additional dates are July 21, August 8 and September 16. The concerts take place just steps from Keystone's favorite restaurant at Kickapoo’s large sunny patio near our bar and grill, so be sure to stop by for pre-show nosh and post-show drinks. Or enjoy the sounds of the stage from your own private outdoor table while enjoying a leisurely dinner with family and friends.
For the wine and food lover, three different events this summer will be sure to please. On July 14-15, the Keystone Wine and Jazz Festival will fill the River Run Plaza with a weekend of sophisticated wine seminars and jazz ensembles. Let your senses delight in the sounds of some of the country’s best jazz musicians like Hazel Miller, Elan Trotman & Lin Rountree, and Salsa con Jazz. The 16th Annual Bluegrass and Beer Festival comes to town on August 4 & 5. Microbrews and live music combine to give a soulful hand-crafted vibe to this 2 day festival. And to close out the summer with a flavorful bang, check out the Taste of Keystone over Labor Day weekend on September 2. This celebration of Keystone’s best cuisine offers a sampling of local restaurants’ best.
